Resumes
Writing a technology resume that gets interviews
Structure, keywords and impact statements that work for recruiters and applicant tracking systems.
6 min read
Recruiters spend under a minute on a first pass. Make it easy for them to see your level, your stack and your impact.
Structure
- Header: name, location (city/country, or "Remote"), email, LinkedIn/GitHub.
- Summary: 2 lines — your role, years of experience and specialty.
- Skills: grouped (Languages, Cloud, Data, Tools).
- Experience: reverse chronological, 3–5 bullets per role.
- Projects, education and certifications.
Write impact, not duties
Use the pattern Action + What + Result: "Migrated payment services to Kubernetes, cutting deploy time from 40 to 6 minutes." Numbers make achievements concrete.
Match the job
Mirror the exact technologies from the job description where they're true for you. Applicant tracking systems — and our own skill matching on GoTechJob — look for those terms.
Common mistakes
- More than two pages.
- Listing every technology you've touched once.
- Photos, graphics or tables that break ATS parsing.
Once it's ready, upload your resume to your GoTechJob profile so employers can find you.
